Professional:
Crystal is the queen of perpetual learning and exploration. Name any obscure job out there and she has probably worked it. She found a sweet spot working in the field of victim advocacy, child protection, and now prevention, and knew that these types of jobs are where her heart is. Crystal has a bachelor's degree from Dixie State University in theater, a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University Hawaii in International Cultural Studies with an emphasis in anthropology, and a Masters degree from Southern Utah University in Public Administration. If she could keep going to school and collecting degrees, she totally would, but is excited to collect many useful trainings through her position with Southwest Prevention!

Personal: I was born in Panama City Florida and enjoyed many fun and beautiful years in Florida on the white sandy beaches and pristine lakes and rivers. When I was about 9, my mom wanted to move back home to southern Utah and I did the remainder of my growing up right here in St. George. I grew to call it home and I love it here dearly. I have done a great deal of exploring in my short life, from living in Hawaii, to Alaska, and traveling to 14 different countries. I met my husband on tinder and we have been married for 7 years and have a 5 year old daughter who keeps us on our toes!
Why I chose prevention:
I wouldn’t say I chose prevention as much as prevention chose me. I was a victim advocate in the four corners area of Utah and was told I should attend this community meeting. When I showed up, I learned it was a prevention coalition meeting, but I didn’t really understand what I was supposed to be doing there or what it was all about. I was desperate for training and so I attended a few prevention specific trainings and then attended the big prevention conference in Bryce Canyon and learned so much! It wasn’t at all applicable to my job then, but the information was so fascinating and useful in my everyday life that I started getting more involved in the coalition and understood my role there a lot more. Fast forward a year, I applied for the position here, and it's just a beautiful fit to be working on preventing the things that usually cause people to be victimized and helping to build a safer and more cooperative community.
