Questions to Ask
When asking the question if they are thinking about suicide, be direct and don’t impose judgement or shame.
Example
If someone answers yes if you ask “Are you thinking about suicide?” there are three follow-up questions to help determine whether or not they are in imminent danger.
If they answer yes to all three, do not leave them alone, get immediate help by calling 911 or taking them to the emergency room. It is best to have someone accompany you, if possible.
