Suicide is PreventableTogether, we can reduce and prevent suicide in our community. Just like we receive training in CPR, (to resuscitate someone if they experience cardiac arrest), there are three steps everyone can learn to prevent suicide: question, persuade, and refer (QPR).
Southwest Behavioral Health Center offers free classes to the community to learn how to ask important questions of loved ones, coworkers, neighbors and friends if you suspect they might be depressed or suicidal. The 1 to 2-hour course also provides skills on how to persuade someone to get help, and then how to refer them to professionals who can help. |

About QPR Training
QPR is an evidence-based training proven to reduce and prevent suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. QPR can be learned in our Gatekeeper course in as little as one hour. Gatekeepers can be anyone, but include parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, office supervisors, squad leaders, foremen, police officers, advisors, caseworkers, firefighters, and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide.
