Personal:
Hi, I’m Abbie. I grew up in Farmington Utah. I graduated high school from Davis High and I moved to St. George in 2011. I moved to Southern Utah to attend Dixie State University where I got my associates degree. I then attended the University of Utah where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. One of my goals is to further my education and get a Master’s Degree. I love learning and I believe that knowledge is such a valuable asset, you can never know too much, right?
I have 4 siblings and most of my family lives in Northern Utah. I have 2 nieces and 2 nephews; they are the light of my life. I am a huge dog lover - if I could own all the dogs I would. I have a little Pomeranian named Thor, and I wish I could have 10 more of him. My family is a huge part of my life and I’m blessed to have their support in everything I do.
I love to travel. I never traveled much as a kid, but one of our favorite places to go when I was a kid was Jackson Hole, WY. I found my love for traveling once I left home. My favorite place I’ve traveled to is Hawaii, where I get to visit a best friend who lives there. I would really like to go to Europe, Italy being at the top of my list. I love shopping and I’d kill to shop at the fashion capital of the world, Milan. I’m also very interested in other cultures, art, and architecture. I swear, every day I add a new place to the list of places I want to see.
Why I chose prevention:
I have always wanted to work in mental health. There is something so amazing about being able to help people. When people ask, “why did you pick psychology as a degree, you must be crazy?” my response was that I’ve always wanted to help people and this was a way I felt like I could make a difference. Prevention found me this last year when I applied for a bunch of jobs after I got my degree. It seemed like this job wasn’t going to happen, when the position I applied for was filled. I got a call about a week later asking if I was still interested, and I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know much about prevention, but the more I learn the more I believe that it works. It is a whole other side of mental health that I never even knew existed. I’m fortunate to work with a pretty awesome team here that are all working towards the same goal. Prevention works, and working with the youth is what I’ve always wanted to do.
