Professional:
I’ve only worked for Southwest Behavioral Health Center the last 3 months but I have learned so much about prevention in that short time. Since I’ve been here, I’ve completed the SAPST, MHFA and QPR trainings. I am the secretary for the WCPC and Reach 4 Hope coalitions. I am also the point of contact for the MHAP program. Learning about mental health is so interesting to me. I love studying the SHARPS data and learning about the risk and protective factors that contribute to addiction and mental health. It is so refreshing to work with so many people that understand that there should never be a stigma towards mental health.

Personal:
When I was a child, my parents moved my two sisters, my brother and I around a lot. We lived in Idaho, Nevada, Utah and California. We finally settled down in San Diego when I was eight years old and San Diego became our hometown. My daughter was born there and I met my husband there as well. I worked for Scholastic Book Fairs almost eighteen years as the administrative assistant to the branch manager. I liked my job and developed so many great friendships while working there. Although I never really felt as though my job was very rewarding. In 2020 when the pandemic hit my husband I packed up and moved to Southern Utah to join our daughter and the rest of my family. I love it in St. George. The people are so nice and I love the red mountains.
Why I chose prevention:
My new job as the prevention secretary is so rewarding! I feel so very blessed to be working for Southwest Behavioral Health Center and for everything I have learned about prevention in the short time I’ve been here.
