What is Talk, They Hear You?A national youth substance use prevention campaign designed to help caregivers, educators and community members be prepared to take action to prevent underage drinking and other substance use.
Key Message:Parents and other adults have a significant influence in their children's decision to experiment with alcohol and other drugs. Although it may not seem like it, when adults talk about drug use, kids hear them.

WE WANT TO COLLABORATE WITH YOUR COALITION!
Southwest Prevention is partnering with Talk, They Hear You and local community coalitions to:
- Increase awareness of the prevalence and risk of underage drinking and substance use;
- Equip parents with the knowledge, skills and confidence to prevent underage drinking and substance use; and
- Increase parents' actions to prevent underage drinking and substance use.
The Process:
- A certified prevention specialist from Southwest Behavioral Health Center will come to your coalition meeting and present on the Talk, They Hear You campaign, (covering mission, main objectives, and sharing developed content).
- At that same meeting, or a separate one, our prevention specialist will provide a Skills Training for coalition members using the Talk, They Hear You campaign materials and tools. This is a valuable way for coalition members to learn about the campaign, and develop the skills promoted themselves.
- $10,000 will be allocated per coalition to allow you to create tailored materials from the campaign that will maximize its impact in your community. As part of this effort, we will provide your coalition with a toolkit to implement a Talk, They Hear You Parents and Caregivers Night Out, and train a coalition member to be a local Talk, They Hear You Coordinator.
- We will also assist your chosen coordinator to hold a press conference to unveil whatever messaging project you choose to implement in your community. It will be an opportunity to engage key stakeholders in your project.
